Joey Scouts is the first Section of Scouts, for boys and girls aged 5 (attending school) to 8. The emphasis is on fun and friendship and a gentle introduction to a world of challenges and adventure. 10th Malvern has a joint Joey Mob with 13th Malvern. We meet on Thursdays from 5.00 to 6.00pm starting 2nd of May.
It’s more than school, as it extends each child’s understanding of the world around them. The programs in Joey Scouts emphasise co-operation and participatory learning.
Joey Scouts are encouraged to express themselves creatively, through games, stories and craft activities. Building monsters and spaceships from scrap items, growing plants from seedlings or singing songs together all develop a strong sense of belonging. Every activity is designed to ensure that the Joey Scout goes home happy and fulfilled from their time as part of the Mob. It’s for active boys and girls who like having fun and making friends.
Joey Scouts are taught to jump in and help other people and to share with their friends. They enjoy visits to special places such as the local fire station or the zoo and visitors to their meetings create more excitement. Joey Scouts go on adventurous activities and face challenges in a safe, non-threatening way with the support of Leaders and their Mob.
Joey Scouts can go on overnight camps or sleepovers with their Mob and sometimes all the Joeys in the state get together at events such as Joey Leap and Joey Sleepover. They wear the Joey Scout Uniform so everyone knows they are Joey Scouts. More than anything, Joey Scouts is about having fun!
